1 Accident and 25 summonses Issued on Opened Snowmobile Trails

Buffalo, NY – Erie County Sheriff Timothy B. Howard reports the Snowmobile Unit issued twenty-five tickets this past weekend to snowmobilers during the Sheriff’s unit’s first extended patrol of the season; the tickets were mostly issued for registration and insurance violations.

The unit also investigated one accident where an operator crashed into a utility pole in the Village of Springville.  No injuries or machine damage was reported and the operator was not issued any tickets.

The Sheriff’s Snowmobile Unit has three machines and conducts roving patrols of the hundreds of miles of opened snowmobile trails in Erie County throughout the season, conditions permitting.

For more information about trail conditions and status, snowmobilers are encouraged to contact the area’s snowmobile clubs and for safety course availability and general rider information, operators should visit the NYS Parks website.
