Buffalo, NY – Erie County Sheriff Timothy B. Howard reports Deputies made several impaired driving arrests over the weekend.

April 9, 1:40 a.m.; Town of Concord – Deputies Krypel, Szkatulski, and Okal responded to Route 219 for erratic driving complaints.  Deputies observed a vehicle operated by Kristin Lukasiak, 27 of Orchard Park, unable to stay within a lane of travel and a traffic stop was initiated and field sobriety tests were administered.  Following unsuccessful attempts at the sobriety test, Lukasiak was taken to the Springville Substation for processing but later was transported to Bertrand-Chaffee Hospital for evaluation.  Lukasiak submitted to a blood draw and Deputies charged her with DWI and failing to stay within a lane.  The defendant was later released on appearance tickets.

April 9, 5:07 a.m.; Town of Elma – Deputy Zamorek performed a traffic stop on a southbound vehicle on Transit Road after the Deputy observed the car crossing over the yellow line.  While speaking with the operator, the Deputy detected a strong odor of alcohol and administered standard field sobriety tests which the driver failed.  Corey Smith, 19 of Sardinia, was arrested and charged with DWI, felony aggravated unlicensed operation, and various vehicle and traffic violations.  The defendant was released into the custody of a parent and was issued appearance tickets for Elma Town Court.

April 9, 10:54 p.m.; Town of Elma – Deputy Zamorek responded to a three vehicle accident at Transit and Bullis roads.  While interviewing the drivers, Deputy Zamorek observed Matthew Fuller, 34 of Holland, showed signs of impairment and when asked, Fuller made admissions to using heroin, smoking marijuana and taking a combination of Xanax and Oxycontin pills.  Fuller was transported to Erie County Medical Center for treatment.  He charged with DWI-Drugs and multiple counts of drug related charges and was issued appearance tickets for Elma Town Court.

April 10, 12:47 a.m.; Village of Springville – Deputy Okal observed a vehicle traveling on West Main Street crossing over the fog line on three separate occasions prompting a traffic stop. After to failing standard field sobriety tests, Patrick Wright, 53 of Brant, was arrested and charged with DWI and moving from a lane unsafely.  Wright was released after he was issued appearance tickets for Springville Village Court.

April 10, 2:44 a.m.; Town of Grand Island – After the sheriff’s office received complaints of an intoxicated male at a Grand Island Boulevard fast food restaurant attempting to drive away with no rear wheel. Deputy Casey located the vehicle with the engine running and a male subject in the driver’s seat.  The vehicle was resting on the right rear brake rotor and a flat tire and lug nuts in the vehicle’s trunk.  When questioned by the Deputy, Jamie Kraft, 30 of Buffalo, admitted to consuming alcohol and he was administered standard field sobriety tests.  After failing the first six tests the subject refused additional tests and Kraft was subsequently charged with Aggravated DWI with a BAC higher than .18%. 

The Deputy noted that scrape marks were observed throughout the parking lot and ended where the vehicle came to a stop.

April 10, 3:14 a.m.; Town of Boston - Deputy Okal stopped a vehicle for a muffler violation on Boston State Road.  Upon approaching the vehicle, the Deputy observed signs of intoxication and a strong odor of alcohol emanating from the driver.  The operator failed field sobriety tests and was taken to the Springville Substation for a breath test.  The test indicated Kara Grzelewski, 27 of Depew, had a BAC of .34% and due to the alcohol level, she was taken to Bertrand-Chaffee Hospital for evaluation.  Grzelewski was charged with Aggravated DWI, drinking alcohol in a vehicle and a muffler violation.

April 10, 2:22 p.m.; Town of Collins – Kenneth Tyger, 69 of Collins, was arrested for DWI after an investigation by Deputy Reed of a vehicle in a ditch along Wilson Road.  Deputy Reed learned the vehicle was registered to the defendant and located him at his residence a short distance away.  Tyger failed field sobriety tests and registered a BAC nearly twice the legal limit.  Tyger is scheduled to appear in Collins Town Court on April 27.
