Buffalo, NY – Erie County Sheriff Timothy B. Howard announces members of the Crash Investigation Unit arrested Kody Schroeder, 19, of Sardinia early this morning on felony Vehicular Manslaughter and Vehicular Assault charges from the fatal crash that killed Chauncy Kloiber on April 12 in the Town of Colden.

Schroeder was operating the vehicle Kloiber was a passenger in when Schroeder struck the rear of another vehicle on Center Road, subsequently sending his vehicle into a ditch.  The impact of the crash killed Kloiber, who was riding in the back seat, and severely injured the front seat passenger.

The defendant was arraigned this morning in Colden Town Court and is in the Erie County Holding Center in lieu of $50,000.00 bail; additional court proceedings are scheduled for July 12 in Town of Colden court.

The sheriff’s Crash Investigation Unit believes drug impairment and speed were factors in the incident.
