Buffalo, NY – Erie County Sheriff Timothy B. Howard reports his office arrested New York State parolee Jared Sander, 38 of Grand Island, on four felony charges associated with a burglary of a Grand Island business on December 3, 2015.

While patrolling in the area of Industrial Drive, Deputy Ferrick observed a window removed from a business.  The Deputy and Detectives entered the premises and observed large holes in a wall which they suspected were used by a subject to gain access to the building.  During the search of the building, it was discovered that a safe was emptied and other items were missing.  In addition to the missing items, it was discovered the security system had been tampered with and made inoperable.

Using evidence discovered at the scene, Detectives O’Hara and Hanna were able to identify a person of interest involved in the burglary and based on the Detectives’ evidence obtained a search warrant for Sander’s residence on Bedell Road.  After the search of the subject’s residence, the Sander was arrested and charged with four separate felonies: burglary – 3rd degree, burglary – 2nd degree, grand larceny, and criminal mischief.

Sander is currently housed at the Erie County Holding Center awaiting a court appearance in Grand Island Town Court on February 1.

Detectives are investigating approximately ten other similar burglaries on Grand Island and Sander may face additional charges.
