Buffalo, NY – Erie County Sheriff Timothy B. Howard reports Detectives made an arrest in a robbery attempt at a home in Grand Island and larcenies at a local gym.

Sheriff’s Patrol Deputies first responded to a robbery call in the late afternoon of September 23, at a West River Road address.  The call reported an individual gained access to the residence by claiming to be a water maintenance worker named “Jake Rodger.”  While in the residence, the suspect stated this was a robbery but was scared off when the victim explained that someone was coming home soon.  The victim provided the Sheriff’s Office with a description of the subject, the vehicle and the direction he traveled.

Meanwhile, Detectives were investigating larcenies at a local gym were victims provided descriptions of a suspect and the vehicle he was driving; both were similar to a suspect for the attempted robbery on West River Road.

During the investigation of the gym larcenies, Detectives gained information that tied the suspect to all the incidents and the Detectives subsequently arrested Timothy Mulvey, 29 of Grand Island, on September 28.  Mulvey was charged with one felony count of attempted robbery, larceny charges, and other misdemeanors.

Mulvey is currently incarcerated at the Erie County Holding Center on $5,000 bail with pending court dates.

The investigation continued after the subject’s arrest and the Sheriff’s Office determines that Mulvey did not have an accomplice and the public was not in danger.
