Buffalo, NY – Erie County Sheriff Timothy B. Howard reports Deputies were called to an accident on Broadway in the Town of Alden around 10:20 a.m. on March 6 for a vehicle that crashed and came to a stop in a front yard.

When Deputies arrived and began talking with the operator, they observed signs of impairment prompting the investigators to request Deputy Biegasiewicz, a sheriff’s Drug Recognition Expert, for evaluation.

The DRE determined the operator, Courtney Nowak, 27 of Hamburg, was impaired by drugs and subsequently charged her with DWAI-narcotics and criminal possession of a controlled substance.

The crash injured a passenger; they were taken to Erie County Medical Center for evaluation and treatment for a lower-body injury, as well as caused damage to a front yard and a utility pole.

The defendant was also taken the ECMC for evaluation and was later released on appearance tickets for Alden Town Court.
