Elma Driver had Initial BAC Reading 4X Legal Limit; Other Driver had Revoked License for Alcohol Related Reasons

Buffalo, NY – Erie County Sheriff Timothy B. Howard reports Deputies made two felony arrests following traffic stops.

June 14, 8:16 P.M., Town of Elma – Deputy Zamorek responded to Bowen Road for a citizen complaint about a reckless driver.  When the Deputy located the vehicle, he observed it swerve onto the shoulder and across the double yellow line into oncoming traffic.  The Deputy stopped the vehicle and attempted to administer field sobriety tests but the driver was unsteady, and the Deputy deemed it unsafe to continue.  A preliminary breath test indicated a BAC level of more than 4-times the legal limit.  Deputy Zamorek arrested and charged Gary Golembiewski, 63, of Elma with Felony Aggravated DWI, Felony DWI – previous conviction, and two vehicle and traffic violations.  Golembiewski is being held at the Erie County Holding Center on $500.00 bail.

June 15, 2:28 A.M., Town of Grand Island – Deputies Cannan and Clark responded to call about a vehicle striking a traffic control sign in a traffic circle on Staley Road.  The Deputies located the vehicle described by the caller in a nearby restaurant parking lot and interviewed the driver.  Their investigation discovered the operator’s license had been revoked for failing to attend or participate in a New York State Impaired Driver program.  The Deputies also observed signs of intoxication, and when asked to submit to a breath test at the Grand Island Substation, Carlos Taylor refused.  The Deputies charged Taylor, 20, of Grand Island with a felony count of aggravated unlicensed operation, a misdemeanor count of DWI, and seven infractions which include refusal to take a breath test.  Taylor was released to the custody of a sober third party.
