Buffalo, NY – Erie County Sheriff Timothy B. Howard reports the arrest of Armand Swanson, 19 of Buffalo, for marijuana possession after a traffic stop for failing to stop at a stop sign.

On March 19, at approximately 11:20 p.m., Deputy Clark observed a vehicle failing to stop at the intersection of Schwegler and Love roads.  While Deputy Clark was talking to the driver, he detected a strong odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle.  When asked about the marijuana odor, the operator stated he smoked marijuana before he drove the vehicle. 

Deputy Clark, assisted by Deputy Girdler, searched the vehicle and examined a container, which appeared to be normal, and discovered a false bottom.  Inside the hidden compartment, Deputies discovered two plastic bags containing marijuana.

Swanson was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of marijuana and failing to stop at a stop sign.  The defendant was released on an appearance ticket with a court date scheduled for March 30
