Victim Believed to be Hunting Alone

Buffalo, NY – Erie County Sheriff Timothy B. Howard announces the elderly male found unresponsive in a field along Wyandale Road in the Town of Concord Saturday afternoon was identified as Wladyslaw Wielgus, 72, of Concord.

Deputies responded to a field in the area of 11196 Wyandale Road Saturday after a friend found the victim.  Emergency medical personnel responded to the scene and pronounced Wielgus dead.

The Sheriff’s office conducted an investigation and believes the victim had fallen out of a tree stand the previous day and attempted to make his way back to the road.  The victim was found in the field with just jeans and a hooded sweatshirt; deputies discovered footwear along his trail and a crossbow in the vicinity of a tree stand.

The medical examiner determined the victim had a broken leg, jaw, and sternum and died as a result of the injuries.
