The Sheriff’s Office is teaming up with Legislator Lynne Dixon to offer those who need to obtain their NYS Safe Boating Certificate an opportunity to do so. Legislator Dixon is hosting a free class in conjunction with the Erie County Sheriff's Office, and there are still a few spots available. Please contact her office at 858-8671 or by email at lynne.dixon@erie.gov to reserve a spot. The course will be offered in 2 parts on May 2nd and 3rd 2017 from 5-9 pm at the Woodlawn Beach Lodge, 3580 Lakeshore Road in Blasdell; you must attend both sessions to become certified.

Anyone born on or after May 1, 1996 must complete this course in order to legally operate a mechanically propelled boat. For those born before that date, no course is required. In addition, all operators of a personal watercraft (PWC), such as a Jet Ski, need to complete a course, and be at least 14 years of age. Information on the law can be found here.
