Inmate Sliced both Arms and Bleeding Heavily

Buffalo, NY – Erie County Sheriff Timothy B. Howard reports Deputies and Division of Correctional Health nurses provided emergency medical treatment to an inmate that used the blades from a jail-issued razor to cut their arm and attempt suicide.

On Wednesday, August 15, Deputies Breinlinger and Insalaco heard a commotion from a cellblock area and rushed to the area to investigate.  There they found an inmate standing in a sally port bleeding heavily from his arms.  Deputies immediately began treating his wounds and holding center nurses continued treatment until he was turned over to EMS staff to be transported to Erie County Medical Center.  The inmate was treated for his wounds and returned to the holding center.

Before the incident, the inmate was cleared from constant observation and housed according to his classification.
