Buffalo, NY – Erie County Sheriff Timothy B. Howard reports Corrections Officers assigned to the Erie County Correctional Facility discovered a Suboxone strip in an inmate’s footwear following a contact visitor with a guest.

On April 4, an Officer conducted a thorough search of inmate Michael Johnson, 31 years-old, after the Officer observed the inmate remove an object from his mouth and place it in his shoe.  The search discovered a white pill, later identified as Suboxone, in the inmate’s shoe.  After the inmate was evaluated by medical personnel, he was returned to a housing unit.

Police Services Deputies charged inmate Johnson with criminal possession of a controlled substance and possession of contraband.  The inmate will be arraigned in Alden Town Court at a future date and he faces administrative disciplinary charges from correctional facility supervisors.

Inmate Johnson is held at the Erie County Correctional Facility for felony charges out of Hamburg and Cheektowaga.

Sheriff’s Deputies continue their investigation into this smuggling incident.
