Inmate Tries To Smuggle Matches, Paper & Pot into Holding Center

Buffalo, NY – Erie County Sheriff Timothy B. Howard reports that Deputies at the holding center found contraband on an incoming inmate on Friday, September 18.

On Friday, at approximately 6 p.m., Deputy Sinatra conducted a routine search on new Town of Hamburg inmate, when the minor became uncooperative and was placed in mechanical restraints and a strip search was ordered and completed with Deputy Basher discovering a plastic bag containing suspected marijuana, matches, and rolling papers hidden in the inmate’s buttocks.

Deputy Thompson responded to the incident with narcotics detection canine, Bili, and conducted a search of the plastic bag; the canine made a positive alert for narcotics.  When questioned about the contraband, the inmate stated that he tried to bring it in with him.

The defendant was charged with a felony count of introducing dangerous contraband into a prison.
