Air-1 Aiding the City of Lackawanna, Fire Fighters with Aerial Imagery

Buffalo, NY – Erie County Sheriff Timothy B. Howard announces that his office has deployed Air-1 to assist the City of Lackawanna, the Lackawanna and Buffalo fire departments and Erie County Emergency Services as the agencies respond to a fire at the former Bethlehem Steel Plant.

Air-1 is providing real-time photos, video and other imagery to the responding agencies, enabling the leaders to make effective and quick decisions.

This past year, Air-1 installed a new system that allows the crew to transmit real-time footage to ground command posts.  Sheriff Howard authorized the use of seized asset funds and utilized grant funding to upgrade Air-1’s capabilities when communicating with event or incident commanders on the ground.

The Erie County Sheriff’s Office is an assisting agency and will not be sharing any of the imagery with members of the media or the public.
