Operators on Land and Sea Arrested For Narcotics

Buffalo, NY – Erie County Sheriff Timothy B. Howard reports two arrests yesterday after two operators were stopped in their vehicle and narcotics were discovered.

 

7:58 p.m., August 9, Buffalo Harbor – Erie County Sheriff’s Marine Unit Deputies Coulombe and Okal observed a vessel exceeding the speed limit and creating a wake in a “no wake” zone.  The marine unit stopped the vessel and during their investigation discovered the boat’s operator had an active arrest warrant out of the City of Buffalo. Kevin Schung, 48, of West Seneca was taken into custody, and during a search of the defendant Deputies discovered two strips of Suboxone concealed in his wallet.  Schung was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance and was taken to the holding center pending his arraignment for the warrant.

 

10:30 p.m., August 9, Village of Springville - Deputy Zamorek initiated a traffic stop on Waverly Road and during his investigation the Deputy discovered the operator’s license had ten active suspensions.  The Deputy placed Jason Ovitt, 30, of Cattaraugus into custody; during a search, the Deputy discovered a crack pipe and an amount of cocaine.  Ovitt was charged with four counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance, one count of criminal use of drug paraphernalia, aggravated unlicensed operation, unlawful possession of marijuana and a vehicle and traffic violation.  Ovitt is at the holding center pending his arraignment.
