Corrections Academy Graduates April 2016

Buffalo, NY – Erie County Sheriff Timothy B. Howard announced the Erie County Sheriff’s Office Basic Corrections Academy completed its latest training academy for the county jails.  The Sheriff will swear-in 24 new Deputies and Corrections Officers today at 1 p.m. at the Erie Community College City Campus.

The recruits attend a 13-week long academy where they receive defensive tactics, jail management training as well as weapons and Oleoresin Capsicum (Pepper Spray) training.

After the recruits graduate from the Basic Corrections Academy, the Deputies and Corrections Officers will be assigned to the Erie County Holding Center or the Correctional Facility.  The newly sworn officers will continue their training alongside experienced officers within the detention facilities and will receive their final duty upon completion of field training.

Included in this class are Deputies from the Wyoming County and Cattaraugus County sheriff’s offices.
