21-year-old Male Victim shot during an Attempted Robbery

Buffalo, NY – Erie County Sheriff Timothy B. Howard reports over the weekend Deputies and Detectives have been investigating an attempted robbery and shooting in the Town of Clarence and have charged a minor 17-year-old male thus far.

Just after midnight on April 1, Deputy Lundberg responded to Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital for reports of an individual with a gunshot wound.  The Deputy observed a gunshot wound to the victim’s calf, and at that time the investigation was expanded to include Sheriff’s Detectives.

During the investigation, the Sheriff’s office learned that the subject was lured to a housing construction site off Gentwood Road sometime Friday and in the course of that prearranged meeting the victim was shot with a .22 caliber rifle in an apparent robbery attempt; the subject, along with two other individuals, fled the scene.

On April 1, Sheriff’s Detectives arrested the 17-year-old suspect at a Clarence residence and charged him with felony counts of second-degree assault with a weapon, attempted robbery with a deadly weapon and reckless endangerment.  The two other suspects are sought by the Erie County Sheriff’s Office in connection with the incident.  One of the suspects displayed some type of handgun and is considered armed. However, the Sheriff’s office believes this was an isolated incident targeting the victim, and it does not believe the second suspect is a danger to the public.

The 17-year-old defendant was remanded to the Erie County Holding Center and Detectives continue their investigation into incident.  Anyone with information with about this incident or the two outstanding suspects is asked to call the Erie County Sheriff’s Office at 858.2903.
