Deputy Came Upon the Scene While on Patrol Along Transit Road in Elma

Buffalo, NY – Erie County Sheriff Timothy B. Howard reports that Deputy Zamorek was traveling southbound on Transit Road, just north of Clinton Street, in the Town of Elma just after 10 P.M. on May 19 when he came upon an individual lying in the roadway.

 

The Deputy approached the victim and observed a large laceration on the back of his head, and that the individual was unresponsive.  The victim was transported to South Buffalo Mercy Hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.

 

The driver of the vehicle suspected of striking the victim and multiple witnesses were interviewed at the scene, and the Sheriff’s Crash Investigation Unit is continuing its investigation.  At the time of this press release, no charges against the driver have been filed.

 

The victim did not have identification on his person and had not been identified as yet.  The victim is described as black male in his 60s with gray balding hair and gray beard.  He was wearing jeans and tee shirt.

An autopsy is scheduled for Monday.
