Buffalo, NY – Erie County Sheriff Timothy B. Howard reports Detectives are investigating a possible attempted abduction in Grand Island Monday afternoon.

Detectives have interviewed people in the area of Whitehaven and Meadow Lane about a suspicious incident involving an 8-year-old girl and a middle-aged woman with dark, shoulder-length hair wearing a pink top and a multi-colored scarf.  It is reported the female approached the girl around 3:15 p.m. and tried to entice the girl into a newer, small, black, four-door, SUV - possibly a Chevrolet Equinox.  The female drove away when others heard the 8-year-old crying and came to her aid.

The operator was the only occupant of the describe vehicle and the Sheriff’s Office is searching the area for the SUV and driver.
