Buffalo, NY – Erie County Sheriff Timothy B. Howard reports that his office responded to a crash on Route 39 in the Town of Sardinia yesterday around 4 p.m. where a vehicle crossed over lanes and struck an individual working in the area.

The incident occurred on Route 39 between Savage Road and Mill Street when an eastbound sedan crossed over the center lines and struck a surveyor working near the westbound lane.  After striking Samuel Pagano, 22, of South Wales the vehicle continued forward, striking a tree and then a utility pole causing the pole to fall.

Members of the Sardinia and Yorkshire fire companies responded to the scene and provided first aid.  The driver of the vehicle sustained a leg injury and was transported to Bertrand Chaffee Hospital.  Members of the fire companies provided aid to the victim but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
