Deputy Uninjured, Prisoner Sustained Minor Head Injury

Buffalo, NY – Erie County Sheriff Timothy B. Howard reports that on August 15 at approximately 9:54 P.M. a marked sheriff’s vehicle, operated by Deputy Francis, was rear-ended on Route 400, close to the I-90 interchange while transporting a prisoner to the holding center.

The Deputy was transporting 39-year-old Jason Hamilton of Wales following a traffic stop where it was discovered that Hamilton had active warrants from family court, probation, and the City of Buffalo.  Deputy Francis immediately reported the incident and requested EMS to evaluate the prisoner.  After an evaluation of a minor head injury, the inmate signed off at the scene, and the transport to the holding center was completed.

The Crash Investigation Unit was dispatched to the scene, and Deputies issued Jacob Modrzynski, 20, of East Aurora, tickets.

Deputy Francis was not injured during the collision and the vehicle sustained rear end damage.
