Driver has 5 Suspensions and 2 Warrants

Buffalo, NY – Erie County Sheriff Timothy B. Howard reports Deputies arrested a Buffalo man after he rear-ended an inmate transport vehicle on Union Road in Cheektowaga on September 5.

At approximately 7:30 A.M., the transport van was struck by a vehicle operated by 28-year-old Claude Willoughby.  The Crash Investigation Unit responded to the incident and discovered Willoughby has five active suspensions on his license dating back to 2012.  Deputies charged him with a misdemeanor count of aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle and a violation of the vehicle and traffic law for following too close.

Deputies also discovered the defendant had outstanding warrants from Lackawanna and Amherst.  Willoughby was turned over to Lackawanna Police, and the Sheriff’s Office notified Amherst Police of the arrest.

The Deputies were not injured, and there were no inmates in the vehicle at the time of the collision.
