Weekend Traffic Stops Lead To DWIs, Drug Possession & Wanted Individuals

Buffalo, NY – Erie County Sheriff Timothy B. Howard reports that Deputies made several arrests this weekend after traffic stops.

Friday, 10:08 pm; Village of Akron – Deputy Okal initiated a traffic stop after he observed a vehicle with improper lighting. During the stop it was discovered the driver, Clarence Bloomquist, 46 of Buffalo, had two active suspensions on his license. Subsequent to the arrest the vehicle was searched and marijuana was discovered in the vehicle. Bloomquist was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance, driving without a license, and equipment violations. The defendant was released on appearance tickets.

Friday, 11:52 pm; Town of Grand Island – during a traffic detail, Deputy Lundberg observed a vehicle make a turn without signaling. The Deputy initiated a traffic stop and when he approached the vehicle a strong odor of alcohol coming from the vehicle's cabin. The Deputy administered standard field sobriety tests which the driver failed. Jennifer Langworthy, 40 of Grand Island, was arrested and charged with DWI, refusing a breath test, failure to signal and failing to produce a valid license. Langworthy was remanded to the Erie County Holding Center on $250 bail.

Saturday, 12:25 am; Town of Brant – Deputy Connolly initiated a traffic stop on Erie Road near Evangola State Park. During the Deputy's investigation of the driver, he discovered that Carolann Costantino, 27 of Derby, had two outstanding warrants. Costantino was turned over to Evans Police for the warrants.

Sunday, 1 am; Town of Boston – Deputy Bouton pulled over a vehicle on Heinrich Road after the driver failed to dim the headlights. During the traffic stop, the Deputy discovered a container of marijuana in the cabin of the vehicle. Donald Sentz, 19 of Hamburg, was charged with criminal possession of marijuana and released on appearance tickets for Boston Town Court.

Sunday, 2:20 am; Town of Boston – Deputies Bouton and Achtyl were investigating a suspicious vehicle that attempted to avoid the Sheriff's patrol on Heinrich Road. When the Deputies approached the vehicle they could detect a strong odor of marijuana coming from the cabin of the vehicle. During their investigation, the Deputies discovered three separate bags of marijuana and charged Dominick Canzoneri and Anthony Paolini, both 19 of West Seneca, with criminal possession of marijuana. They were released on appearance tickets for Boston Town Court.

Sunday, 7:12 am; Town of Grand Island – Deputies Lysy and Ferrick responded to a call about a vehicle striking a tree on Riverwoods Drive. The Deputies determined that driver, Patrick Chopra, 21 of Grand Island, was intoxicated and charged him with DWI and other vehicle and traffic violations. Chopra was released to a sober third party on tickets.

Sunday, 11:50 pm; Town of Clarence – Deputy Richard initiated a traffic stop on Goodrich Road after he observed a vehicle failing to stay in the designated lane of travel. During the stop, Deputy Richard discovered that the vehicle's registration was suspended and subsequently Valerie Ulrich, 34 of Clarence, was arrested and charged with failure to stay in a lane and operating a vehicle with suspended license plates.
