Springville resident Arrested on multiple felony charges


Erie County Sheriff Timothy B. Howard reports the arrest of a Springville resident on multiple felony charges after a traffic stop in Concord on Saturday night.

While on patrol on Rt. 39 in Springville at approximately 12:45AM, Deputy Don Hoelscher spotted a vehicle turn north onto the Rt 219 expressway at a high rate of speed and drive shoulder to shoulder on the highway.  After getting the vehicle stopped, Deputy Hoelscher arrested the driver:  Hugh D. Smith (41) and charged him with D Felony DWI (2 prior convictions for DWI from 2011 and 2012), Felony Aggravated Unlicensed Operation (revoked license for the DWI’s), Operating a vehicle without an interlock device, Unsafe Turn, and Failure to Stay in Lane.  A breath test revealed his blood alcohol content to be .20%.  He was processed at the Springville Station and transported to the Holding Center to await arraignment in Concord Court.

This was the 9th arrest for DWI by Sheriff’s Road Patrols in 2014.
