October 24, 2013- Erie County Sheriff Timothy B. Howard reports that a suspicious package left by the gate at the Erie County Public Safety Campus last night was investigated by the Sheriff’s Bomb Squad and rendered safe by the Bomb Techs on scene.
At approximately 7:30PM last night, a security patrol noticed a metal box sitting on a concrete barricade by the gate at the Public Safety Building with nobody around it. He notified Buffalo Police Dispatch, who contacted the Sheriff’s Bomb Squad to investigate. The area around the building was blocked off by Sheriff’s Patrols and Buffalo Police, while the building was locked down.
Upon arrival, the bomb techs conducted diagnostics on the package, while Buffalo Police attempted to determine who might have left the package there. After efforts to determine why the package was left there had failed, the Bomb Squad remotely opened it with an energetic tool. The contents of the package were determined to be non – explosive. The package and the items inside were collected as evidence, and the investigation is continuing.
