TOWN OF NEWSTEAD MAN ARRESTED FOR SOPHISTICATED MARIJUANA GROW OPERATION
August 1, 2012- Town of Newstead- he Erie County Sheriff’s Office is announcing that the DEA (Drug Enforcement Administration) Task Force assisted by Erie County Sheriff’s Narcotics Officers and members of the U.S. Border Patrol executed a search warrant this morning on a Town of Newstead residence on Rapids Road and found 336 plants of marijuana (approximately 190 pounds) with an estimated street value of at least $250,000.00. Some of the plants were in excess of 8’.
50 year old John Barron, the owner of the property, was described as cooperative and taken into custody without incident. He was charged with felony possession of marijuana a (C) felony and a misdemeanor- for violating public health law.
During the course of the raid, law enforcement personnel observed a sophisticated irrigation system on the suspect’s backyard property. In the residence they observed numerous scales and packaged marijuana.
Barron was taken to the Erie County Holding Center pending his arraignment in Town of Newstead Court at a later date. More charges may be filed as the investigation continues.
