Sheriff Timothy B. Howard reports the late evening arrest of a Sardinia man for DWI following his property damage accident with a tractor trailer on Rt. 16 in the Town of Sardinia.
Erie County Sheriff's Deputies Brad Ballantyne and Matt Cipollitti responded to Olean Rd. (Rt. 16) near Curriers-Chaffee Rd. in the Town of Sardinia for a report that a vehicle pulled out of a parking lot near there and struck the back end of a tractor trailer. The vehicle in question then left the immediate area of the accident and parked on a dead end road near by.
Upon arrival, Deputies located the vehicle, driven by 50 year old Jeffrey G. Schiener of Schutt Rd. in Sardinia. After further investigation and field sobriety testing, Schiener was found to be intoxicated. Schiener apparently pulled out of a parking lot into the path of the on-coming tractor trailer and clipped the back end of the trailer causing minor damage to both vehicles. No one sustained any injury. Schiener was arrested and charged with DWI, Failing to Yield Right of Way, and Leaving the Scene of a Property Damage Motor Vehicle Accident; he submitted to a chemical breath test which resulted in a .11% BAC reading.
Schiener's vehicle was towed from the scene and he was later released to a family member with appearance tickets to the Town of Sardinia Court at a later date.
This was the 94th DWI by the Erie County Sheriff's Road Patrol this year.
