TOWN OF WALES WOMAN ARRESTED FOR DWI AND LEANDRA'S LAW

January 27, 2012 - Town of Wales - Erie County Sheriff Tim Howard reports the early afternoon arrest of a Town of Wales woman for DWI, including a felony Leandra DWI charge in Wales.

Erie County Sheriff's deputies Dave Makowski and Tom Meredith responded to Big Tree Road in the Town of Wales following a citizen complaint that a woman with a small child was in a local business and was clearly intoxicated; she had just left, driving away.

Deputies obtained the vehicle plate information and were able to locate the vehicle along with the driver, 32 year old Lori Wittenrich of Wales, a short time later in the driveway of her residence.  She had her 4 month old child in the vehicle.

Upon further investigation and field sobriety tests, it was determined that she was intoxicated; she submitted to a breath chemical test which resulted in a .14% BAC.  Wittenrich was subsequently arrested and charged with DWI, including a Leandra Law felony DWI charge for having a small child in the vehicle with her and endangering the welfare of a child. She was taken to the Holding Center pending her arraignment in the Town of Wales Court. Her child was turned over to family members.
