Two Deputies Assaulted by Inmate at the Holding Center

Buffalo, NY – Erie County Sheriff Timothy B. Howard reports that two Deputies assigned to the Erie County Holding Center were injured today while subduing an inmate who attempted to assault a staff nurse.

Inmate Tun Win was being evaluated by a Holding Center nurse when he apparently assaulted the nurse in a private examining room.  Deputies Vanderlip, Miller and Wilson immediately responded to the nurse’s screams and attempted to handcuff the inmate.  Inmate Win resisted and a struggle with the Deputies ensued.  The Deputies were able to subdue the inmate and place him in restraints.

Deputies Daniel Miller and Terry Vanderlip sustained injuries and were transported to Erie County Medical Center for medical evaluation and treatment.

Inmate Win was in custody for domestic violence related charges including child endangerment charges.  Win faces additional charges and will be arraigned tomorrow in Buffalo City Court.
