TWO DWI'S IN DEPEW - INCLUDING ONE IN WHICH SUSPECT NEARLY BACKED INTO PATROL CAR

April 22, 2012 - Erie County Sheriff Timothy B. Howard reports the arrest of two local residents for DWI by Sheriff’s Road Patrols early Sunday morning on Transit Road.

While on patrol in Depew, Deputies Simon Biegasiewicz and Adam Day arrested Steven K. Atlas (22) of Depew and charged him with DWI and traffic infractions after stopping his vehicle for erratic operation on Transit Road near Gould Ave.  A breath test revealed his blood alcohol content to be .17%, over twice the legal limit.

While transporting Atlas back to the Elma Substation for processing, the Deputies patrol car was almost backed into by a car driven by Jennifer E. Mikolajek (34) on Transit Road near French Road.  The Deputies stopped her vehicle and subsequently arrested Mikolajek, charging her with DWI and Unsafe Backing.  A breath test revealed her blood alcohol content to be .16, twice the legal limit.

Both offenders were processed at the Elma Substation and released on appearance tickets.  Assisting Deputies Biegasiewicz and Day were Deputies John Szczepanski and Rich O’Neil.
