December 8, December 9, 2011 - Towns of Holland and Cheektowaga - Erie County Sheriff Timothy B. Howard reports the arrest of two local residents for Driving While Intoxicated by Sheriff’s Road Patrols on Thursday night.
While on patrol in Holland, Deputy Jason Bouton of the Colden Substation responded to a complaint to assist two Officers from the Erie County Probation Department who were conducting a home visit on Maurice N. Knopf (46) of Holland. The Probation Officers spotted Knopf, who is on probation for a Driving While Intoxicated conviction, driving a vehicle into a parking area near his residence. After approaching the vehicle and interviewing Knopf, they realized that he was drunk. After conducting further field sobriety testing, Deputy Bouton arrested Knopf and charged him with D Felony DWI (two prior convictions for DWI within the last 10 years) and Felony Aggravated Unlicensed Operation (license revoked for same reasons). He refused to take a breath test to determine his blood alcohol content. He was processed and transported to the Holding Center to await arraignment on the charges.
While on patrol in Cheektowaga, Deputy Simon Biegasiewicz of the Clarence Substation was stopped at a red light on the corner of Genesee and Transit Road when he was almost struck by a vehicle operated by Nicholas J. Balone (30) as he was making a left turn onto Transit from Genesee. After stopping Balone’s vehicle and conducting field sobriety tests, Biegasiewicz arrested Balone and charged him with Aggravated DWI and multiple traffic infractions. A breath test revealed his blood alcohol content to be .23%, almost times the legal limit. He was processed at the Clarence Substation and released on appearance tickets.
