What should I expect when I apply for Temporary Assistance?

After you complete your application and hand it in you will be advised where to report based on the program you are applying for. You may also be given a follow up appointment to meet with an Employment Counselor and/or an eligibility worker. You may be required to provide verification of identity, citizenship status, age, address, household composition, expenses, income, resources and employability. You may be required to have your photograph and/or fingerprints taken.

If your case is approved you must report if your income, address or household composition changes. You will also be required to recertify on a periodic basis.

How long will it take?

If you are applying for ongoing Temporary Assistance you will generally receive a decision 30 - 45 days after you submit your application. Certification interviews can vary greatly in length depending on individual case circumstances but generally take anywhere from 1 to 2 hours.

If you are applying for "Emergency housing or Utility Shut-off assistance you will be seen by an eligibility worker the same day and will usually be given a decision the same day."
