Erie County Legislator Frank Todaro

Monday morning, members of the 914th Air Refueling Wing Security Forces Squadron presented flags to members of the Depew community thanking them for their generosity after boxes supplies were donated and sent overseas.

The donation effort was led by Depew Village Trustee Audrey Hamernik, who has packaged and sent more than 90 boxes since February with the help of several community members and organizations. Legislator Todaro attended the ceremony and presented a certificate to Carter, an 8-year-old boy who donated money from his piggy bank to help purchase supplies.

Legislator Todaro said, “It was an honor to be at Monday’s flag presentation ceremony recognizing Audrey and other members of the community for their generosity in helping the brave men and women who serve our country. It was also my pleasure to meet Carter and thank him for his incredibly kind gesture! These donation boxes were a great way to show the men and women in the 914th Security Forces Squadron how much we appreciate their service and sacrifice.”

Col. Carl Magnusson, 914th Air Refueling Wing Commander said, “As Reserve Citizen Airmen, we work, live and go to school in our local communities. Sometimes our nation calls us to serve in other locations around the world which often leaves a void our community leaders must fill. Every time we return, we’re met with a warm welcome. We’re proud members of our community and presenting these flags are just a small way for us to show our love and appreciation for your kindness and support.”
