June 27, 2008
As part of our ongoing veteran's outreach efforts, The Erie County Veterans Services office took part in the Buffalo Homecoming career event on Friday, June 27th. The event's organizer, Sara Augsberger, reserved a prime space for us and helps in fulfilling the vision of our Four Pillars of Empowerment program. We were accompanied by Vietnam Era Airforce veteran Paul Wasiewicz and Kathy Ballester, who are both members of the Buffalo Homecoming's steering committee. Together, we raised awareness of little known veterans benefits, such as the Aid and Attendance pension program and the New York State's Tuition Award, as well as the better known GI Bill and VA Home Loan benefits. We distributed literature and resource manuals to veterans and their families. Of course, no one could leave without an American Flag and a "Leave no veteran behind" pin. The event was by all measures a success.
