Mayoral Comment

I would like to clarify several items in regard to the village water system. The survey conducted last year asked residents if they wanted A) All village well water B) Connection to ECWA with minimum use, C) Connection to ECWA with 25% use or D) Connection to ECWA and discontinuing use of the village wells. 1021 surveys were sent and 260 were returned with the following results: A 14.6%, B 40.4%, C 11.2% and D 33.8%. 66.2% favored keeping the village wells in some fashion. The village hired an engineering firm to study each of these scenarios. Based on their report, the cost to purchase all of our water from the ECWA would require a rate increase of $2.64 over our current rate. The village does intend to install one and possibly two connections to the Water Authority for emergencies such as the 2016 drought and possible future growth. This depends on whether we receive grants we have applied for. We will not borrow money for these projects. I invite any resident who has questions about the water system or the study to meet with me and review the entire report. Mayor Michael Manicki
