A particularly severe lake effect snowstorm brought copious amounts of  snow to Alden from November 15 until November 21. The formation of a long, intense band of lake-effect snow varied little over the next several days, keeping the band in place over Alden for an extended period. Alden was heavily impacted, receiving snowfall totals in the range of 5–7 feet. Under the sheer weight of the snow, several area residential and business roofs/buildings began collapsing. The Village Fire Department and Office of Emergency Managment handled over 150 calls during this period.  The maximum snowfall recorded from the storm was 88 inches in Cowlesville. The Village’s Fire Dept., Office of Emergency Management, DPW, village staff and residents were praised for their ability to withstand the effects of the storm, help others in need, and restore normality, with limited help from outside agencies.
