  Vaccine News:

  • Trumenba (Men B) is now a 2-dose or 3-dose schedule- approved by FDA on 4/14/16.   Bev noted that there is a good handout/decision tree on routine MCV4 immunization for Adolescents 11-18 years of Age at www.Give2MCV4.org  Dosage depends on the risk of exposure and the patient’s susceptibility to meningococcal serogroup B disease.
  • “You are the Key to HPV Prevention” is a new video.   Bev will check with Karin S. to have this link uploaded to the WNYPAC website.
  • Flu is will categorized as widespread and the mask regulation remains in effect.  A recent article talks about 2 out of 3 flu vaccine strains showing increased effectiveness if dosage administered in the AM.
  • Measles outbreak reported in Tennessee. Babies can get first MMR before 12 months of age if traveling, but dose will be considered invalid for school and must receive another dose, to count as their first dose.
  • Webinars:

-          Shingles Vaccines:  What You Need to Know:  by NFID- 5/3/16- has been archived.

-          Travel Vaccines:  Know Before You Go: by NFID- 6/1/16

*Sign up and register online for these National Foundation of Infectious Diseases(NFID) webinars on the NFID website

            - NYSIIS and Vaccine Returns and Wastage:  slides from this webinar are available and further training dates announced. Can utilize this on NYSIIS now but electronic required until next year.

Renee Nealy gave the NYSDOH report.   New IAP quarterly report must be sent electronically with budget.  The NYSACHO WNY Immunization Consortia meeting being hosted by R. Viets will be 6/20/16 from 1-2pm and 2-3pm for State reps.  NYSDOH is trying to pass a law that kids<19 years if age could be vaccinated with HPV in STD clinics (only).  Legislation pending.  Many health departments that had HPV vaccine for STD clinics have reported having to discard expired HPV vaccine.

NYS is starting to release TV ads on Meningococcal vaccination for 7th and 12th graders.  Parent notification letter from NYSDOH is on their website.  Children do not need to be excluded from school, as long as their vaccine appointment is “in process”.

No representative in attendance.  No Report.  K. Menza did report that Erie County government is pursuing a 3 million dollar grant for lead poisoning prevention.

 Pharmacy rep absent.  No report.

Erie County:   The 2016-2017 IAP work plan is moving along.

Niagara County:  B. Lawler updated the group on Niagara counties HPV grant.  The HPV provider dinner had 64 attendees out of 120 invites.  Speakers included Dr. Mahoney, C. Baze, and Scott Colley from NYSDOH.  Working with Trinetta and Summit Pediatrics to increase HPV vaccine rates, as part of the grant.  Did an article on National Immunization week for the Niagara County Newspaper, as well as a co-presentation with Paul LaDouceur for Lockport School Nurses on the new Meningococcal vaccination school regulations.  Travel vaccine clinics very busy- giving lots of yellow fever vaccinations.

Wyoming County: No report.  Not in attendance.

Orleans County: C. Mills reported that she did her 1st AFFIX and continues to use the SAMS portal to produce provider immunization rates for providers.  Giving about 35 VFA vaccines/month at the Orleans County Jail- mainly HPV, Pneumovax, Hepatitis A and Tdap

Genesee County:  setting up meeting with Genesee County Jail to discuss a monthly vaccine clinic at the jail (similar to Orleans county) to administer VFA vaccines.

Immunization clinics have been slow.  Plan to do vaccinations at Migrant camps in Genesee County this summer- awaiting direction from Oak Orchard on how much vaccine to order.

E. Snyder reported that UB is still having flu activity in the dormitories and lots of students continue to travel.

Very busy with travel.  Stressed the importance of clients need to pre-plan travel, to maximize their ability to receive proper vaccination coverage.  Cannot obtain a VISA to attend the Hajj , unless client has proof of the Meningococcal Group A vaccine.   Working with school nurses re: meningococcal vaccinations for senior high school students.  Are looking at potentially getting into VFC vaccination arena.  Gearing up for giving the travel vaccine update at the May WNYPAC Immunization Conference.
