Composting

The Village of Akron and Town of Newstead jointly support their own municipal Composting Facility at 12707 Clarence Center Road, Akron, NY, 14001.

Times:  Monday-Friday 7:00 am - 3:00 pm; Saturdays April-November, 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

UPON ARRIVAL ALL VISITORS/RESIDENTS TO THE JOINT HIGHWAY FACILITY MUST REPORT TO THE OFFICE BEFORE DROPPING OFF OR PICKING UP COMPOST.

All Residents are required to obtain a composting permit which can be used as many times as you want, but must be shown each time you visit the facility.  The permits can be obtained at the Akron Village Hall, Newstead Town Hall and at the Joint Highway Facility.  

Town Residents can drop off compost items, grass clippings, and tree branches or pick up compost materials or wood chips.  Please note we do not load your vehicles.

Village Residents can drop off yard waste, but NO BRUSH - Brush is picked up every Monday curbside.

Commercial Contractors and Landscaping Companies are PROHIBITED from dropping off and/ or picking up from the Compost Facility.  Revised April 2018.
