The Village of Akron is located in Western New York about 25 miles east of Buffalo and 50 west of Rochester. Akron is a place for your residence or business. You'll like it here!
Akron was founded in 1849 and is over 150 years old. It has gone through cycles of growth and prosperity with some of its history reflected in this web site. We have a strong industrial base that provides jobs, low property taxes and supports a complex infrastructure of municipal electric, water and wastewater systems. We have a cross section of homes in various settings, and periods, all focused around a quaint central business district. Akron is located within minutes of major shopping malls, sporting events including the NFL Buffalo Bills football and NHL Buffalo Sabres hockey teams. Cultural activities include parks, concerts, recreation, summer fairs, celebrations, and parades, volunteer organizations and just plain good company.
Akron is unique in village government as the Akron Water System flows through Wyoming, Genesee and Erie County. The Akron Water Plant is located in the Town of Darien in Genesee County with the Akron water reservoir located in the Town of Bennington in Wyoming County. Having a Village sewer plant sized for residential and industrial growth, along with a municipal electric utility system that has historically provided electricity at a very low rate, make Akron very attractive to business and residents alike. All physical plants are kept up to date and funded through capital projects are planned well six or more years into the future. We work to keep permit fees for buildings and village services highly competitive and pride ourselves on customer service. The Mayor and Board of Trustees have historically focused on keeping governmental costs down and establishing partnerships with surrounding municipalities wherever it is of mutual value.
Akron has it own fire and police departments that are highly respected. A New York State police presence is located within village limits. Akron has a planning board and a zoning board for resident and business property owner protection.

Due to the wonderful response from the Community regarding the article in the Akron Bugle, the Annual Memorial Day Ceremonies are going to be held this year.

The Village Board passed the final budget for 2022-2023 at the April 27, 2022 Special Meeting, please see the final budget below:
Unfortunately, due to the lack of manpower, the VFW Post #3180 and the American Legion Post #900 will not be able to hold the Annual Memorial Day Ceremonies this year. However, Flags will still be placed on Veteran's graves at the area cemeteries.
Reminder: Please note that any Water, Sewer, or Refuse balances on your utility accounts will be relevied to your Village tax bill if they are not paid in full by May 20, 2022.
Starting Thursday February 17, 2022 the Village will be handing our home test kits for residents at our office at 21 Main Street from 8:00 am - 5:00 pm. Please use the front entrance. Kits will be handed out until supplies are gone!
Due to the inclement weather and significant accumulation of snow yesterday, Modern suspended collection operations of Monday January 17, 2022. This action will push the Village of Akron's pick-up to Saturday January 22, 2022.
Erie County Health Dept. has lifted the Boil Water Notice for all Village of Akron Water Customers. Please see their comments below:

Please note that there were three water breaks found and fixed yesterday. Crews are still looking at a potential fourth break now.
Waiting on the final water samples which will be taken today to finally lift the "Boil Water" notice.
Thankful for our DPW crews for working long hours to fix these issues in severely cold weather.
