“The noble notion of checks and balances is a pillar to American democracy.  It is a great day in New York State because unchecked and out of control power by Governor Cuomo soon comes to an end.

The New York State Legislature moved to strip the executive powers granted to Andrew Cuomo during the COVID-19 Pandemic.  An Executive in government is not a king. He should not have had these powers to begin with.  These executive powers have no place in a responsible government that is responsive to the people.

In Erie County, I know firsthand that taxpayers are best served because of checks and balances on an out of control Executive branch of government.  No one person, no matter the party, should be the sole decision maker in a democracy.”

- Comptroller Stefan I. Mychajliw
