WE ARE ONE STEP CLOSER TO REAL TAX RELIEF

“WE ARE ONE STEP CLOSER”

House passage of American HealthCare Act could mean millions in tax relief for Erie County Taxpayers

STATEMENT FROM ERIE COUNTY COMPTROLLER
STEFAN I. MYCHAJLIW

“We are one big step closer to the ‘Mychajliw Taxpayer Protection Plan’ becoming a reality. Our hard working Erie County taxpayers demand and deserve relief from the massive amount of taxes they pay. New York State should pay the massive Medicaid bill they shove down the throats of Erie County taxpayers. That is only fair. The ‘Mychajliw Taxpayer Protection Plan’ gives back most of the money to the people that paid the bill in the first place: the taxpayer. I propose a 75% reduction in property taxes for all Erie County homeowners. The remaining savings, an additional $50 million, should be invested in repairing our crumbling roads and bridges. My mission is to increase our investment in fixing our dilapidated infrastructure from $36.4 million to $87.5 million. Taxpayers deserve better than being forced to drive on roads littered with potholes and bridges in disrepair. Many thanks to Congressman Chris Collins for fighting for taxpayers by eliminating this unfair and unfunded mandate.”

Congressman Collins’ Amendment to the American Health Care Act requires the State of New York to fully fund the cost of Medicaid in New York State. New York is one of the few states in the nation that forces most of its counties to pay a big portion of the Medicaid bill, while at the same time giving local taxpayers no say whatsoever in how that money is spent. Last month, when the New York Medicaid Amendment was approved as an addition to the American Healthcare Act, Comptroller Mychajliw wasted no time in putting forth a plan for how Erie County should respond to a $203 million windfall. In short, Mychajliw believes 60% of the windfall should immediately be returned to taxpayers. More information on his plan can be found here:
