Convicted Rapist Pleads Guilty to Failing to Register as a Sex Offender

Erie County District Attorney Frank A. Sedita, III announced that 34 year old Cara Dickey pleaded, as charged, to Failure to Register and/or Verify as A Sex Offender this morning before Supreme Court Justice John L. Michalski. This is the highest charge for which Dickey could have been convicted at trial.

Dickey, who was on parole for her March 2009 conviction of Rape in the Second Degree, fled her halfway house on Bailey Avenue in Buffalo and was located by US Marshal’s over a month later in Chicago. Dickey was required by law to register a change of address within 10 days, but failed to do so. Dickey had been released on parole after serving a 4 year sentence for her Rape conviction.

Dickey faces a maximum prison term of 4 years when she is sentenced on June 6, 2013 at 9:30 a.m. before Justice Michalski.

Dickey has been remanded pending sentencing.
