Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announces that 40-year-old Jamien L. Harris of Buffalo was arraigned this morning before Buffalo City Court Judge Diane Wray on one count of Criminal Possession of a Firearm (Class “E” felony).
It is alleged that on Sunday, November 21, 2021, at approximately 11:08 a.m., Buffalo Police responded to a home on Highgate Avenue after receiving a 911 call regarding a domestic incident. The officers allegedly found the defendant and a deceased 90-year-old woman in the living room of the home. Officers later executed a search warrant and allegedly found two loaded handguns inside the house.
The Erie County Medical Examiner’s Office determined that the elderly woman died from a gunshot wound to the chest, ruling the death as a homicide. Due to the ongoing investigation, the name of the deceased is not being released at this time.
Harris is scheduled to return on Wednesday, December 8, 2021 at 9:30 a.m. She is being held without bail pending the results of a forensic examination.
If convicted of the gun charge, Harris faces a maximum of 4 years in prison.
DA Flynn commends the Buffalo Police Department Homicide Squad for their work in the investigation.
As are all persons accused of a crime, the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
