Acting Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Flaherty, Jr. announces that a jury has returned a guilty verdict before Erie County Court Judge Kenneth F. Case on the charge of Murder in the Second Degree in the trial of Daniel Whiting of Lackawanna.

On July 1, 2015, Whiting stabbed his 21-year-old wife Ashley 30 times at their home at 135 Madison Avenue and then stabbed himself, claiming that both were attacked by an intruder.

Jurors deliberated just under an hour before convicting Whiting.

Whiting was remanded to jail and faces 25 years to life when he is sentenced on August 15, 2016 at 9:30 a.m. by Judge Case.

Acting DA Flaherty applauds the professional efforts of detectives from the Lackawanna Police Department including Rodney Pietras, Brian Lasko, Charles Jaworski and Michael Pienta, all under the supervision of Captain Joe Leo.

Homicide Bureau Chief Colleen Curtin Gable and Assistant District Attorney Kate S. Lavin prosecuted the case.
