Buffalo Man Pleads Guilty for Driving Under the Influence, Causing Crash That Injured Another Driver

Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announces that 43-year-old Willie D. Green, also known as Dennis M. Brown, of Buffalo pleaded guilty yesterday afternoon before Erie County Court Judge Susan Eagan to one count of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree (Class “B” felony) and one count of Vehicular Assault in the Second Degree (Class “E” felony). The defendant pleaded guilty to the highest sustainable charges.

On Saturday, April 16, 2022, at approximately 8:45 p.m., the defendant was driving, while under the influence of a drug, northbound on Wilson Street when he caused a collision with another vehicle that was traveling eastbound on Sycamore Street in the City of Buffalo. During the investigation, the defendant was found in possession of more than ½ ounce of fentanyl.

The driver of the other vehicle, a 68-year-old man, was taken to ECMC where he received treatment for head trauma. The victim continues to recover from the injury.

Green faces a maximum of 15 years in prison when he is sentenced as a second felony offender on Wednesday, July 20, 2022 at 9:30 a.m. Bail was continued at $5,000 previously set in Buffalo City Court. The defendant remains on house arrest for a parole violation.

DA Flynn commends the Buffalo Police Department Accident Investigation Unit for their work in the investigation.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Christopher M. McCarthy of the Vehicular Crimes Unit.
