DA Flynn to Serve as President-Elect of National District Attorneys Association

Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announces that he has been elected to serve as President-Elect of the National District Attorneys Association. Members unanimously voted for Flynn at the NDAA Summer Conference in Virginia Beach, Virginia on Sunday, July 18, 2021. Flynn will serve as President-Elect for one year before leading as President of the organization in 2022.

The National District Attorneys Association is a non-partisan, non-profit membership association that provides training, technical assistance and services to prosecutors. Founded in 1950, the organization is the oldest and largest association of prosecutors in the country. Their mission is to be the voice of America’s prosecutors and to support their efforts to protect the rights and safety of the people by providing members with the knowledge, skills, and support to ensure justice is attained. The President-Elect serves directly under the President then automatically becomes President of the organization the following year.

In addition to voting on leadership, members are expected to discuss topics such as “Strategies to Address Violent Crime” and “Advancing Diversionary and Alternative Disposition Programming” at the conference.

“It is my honor to be elected as a leader of this great organization. I look forward to representing my fellow prosecutors and the opportunity to have a voice on criminal justice-related issues on a national level,” said Erie County District Attorney John Flynn.

Flynn, who is serving his second term as the 41st District Attorney in Erie County, New York, previously served as a Vice President of the NDAA. He headed the organization’s Metro Section, which represents District Attorneys in major cities across the country. He will be second District Attorney of Erie County to serve as President of the organization. United States District Judge Hon. Richard J. Arcara served as NDAA President during his term as Erie County DA.

Flynn is also currently the first Vice President of the District Attorneys Association of New York (DAASNY), an organization representing prosecutors across New York State.
