Assistant District Attorney II
Department & Location: Erie County District Attorney, 25 or 50 Delaware Avenue, Buffalo
Title of Position Assistant District Attorney II, Job Group XIII
Shift: Full-Time Permanent
Monday-Friday 8:30am-4:30pm
Starting Annual Salary: $60,010 Annually
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:
- Receives, investigates and prosecutes complaints from the police and general public;
- Interviews complainants and witnesses, visits scenes of crimes and gathering facts in preparation for prosecution;
- Gathers and preserves evidence for presentation at trial and issues and serves subpoenas for witnesses to appear before the Grand Jury and trial courts;
- Prepares and submits motions, writs and various types of legal documents;
- Conducts Grand Jury investigations and inquiries and presents criminal actions to the Grand Jury;
- Provides, with others, on-call assistance to police agencies;
- Assists with arraignments, bail applications and extradition proceedings;
- Tries criminal matters in the City, Town and Village Courts and County and State Superior Courts.
PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:
Advanced knowledge of criminal law and procedure, investigations, legal principles, terminology and procedures, and prosecution of criminal proceedings; good knowledge of modern investigatory techniques; ability to work with other law enforcement officers; ability to understand and execute complex written and/or oral instructions; good knowledge of techniques involved in court presentations; ability to speak and write effectively and present clear and logical legal arguments; ability to get along with others; tact; sound professional judgment; personal and professional integrity; dependability; initiative; resourcefulness; neat appearance; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduation from an approved school of law with a J.D. Degree.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:
Admission to the Bar in the State of New York and New York State Driver's License.
