ANTICIPATED VACANCY NOTICE

COMMISSIONER OF PERSONNEL

STARTING ANNUAL SALARY: $ 96,662.

The Erie County Executive's Office is seeking an individual to lead the Department of Personnel as Commissioner.   The work of the Commissioner involves administering the Civil Service Law as it applies to the County of Erie and directing the personnel administration activities for the County. This is a specialized administrative position involving responsibility for directing and administering the activities of the Department of Personnel. General direction is received from the County Executive, subject to implementing requirements based on Civil Service Law. Supervision is exercised over lower level professional, technical and clerical staff.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: Comprehensive knowledge of the general principles and practices used in modern public personnel and civil service administration; good knowledge of the New York State Civil Service Law; good knowledge of the organization of Erie County departments and agencies; good knowledge of classification techniques; good knowledge of organization methods and techniques; ability to maintain harmonious and effective working relationships with officials and administrative officers; ability to meet and deal with people effectively; ability to present clear and concise oral and written reports of findings and recommendations; ability to supervise the work of others; integrity; resourcefulness; tact; good judgment; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

The Commissioner of Personnel is appointed by the Erie County Executive, subject to confirmation by the Erie County Legislature.
