Residence Requirements:
THERE ARE NO RESIDENCY REQUIREMENTS FOR PARTICIPATION IN THIS EXAMINATION. There is one anticipated vacancy at the Erie County Medical Center Corporation.
Examples of Duties:
An Environmental Services Office Clerk performs clerical work with an emphasis on time and attendance and related matters for the Environmental Services staff at the Erie County Medical Center Corporation;
Processes time and attendance for Environmental Services staff;
Receives, verifies with supervisory staff and processes time-off requests via paper, telephone and electronic communication;
Records and maintains logs/electronic spreadsheets of time-off requests;
Takes and answers inquiries from staff on time-off and related matters;
Prints and posts employee work schedules;
Canvasses employees for overtime opportunities and vacation bids; monitors employee overtime hours worked in accordance with union contractual guidelines and applicable laws and regulations;
Collaborates with Human Resources on employee leave of absence matters and payroll matters;
Schedules and coordinates the logistics of candidate job interviews;
Prepares various reports;
Performs receptionist and other clerical work as required.
Qualifications:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must meet the following requirements on or before the date of the written test:
Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and three (3) years of clerical* experience (see Note 1), of which included the maintenance of time and attendance records.
Notes:
1. *Clerical experience, as defined by New York State Civil Service, means activities involved in the performance of routine office tasks, such as keeping of records and accounts, correspondence, recording/entering (keying) and retrieving data and/or information, in accordance with prescribed procedures.
2. Verifiable part-time and/or volunteer experience will be pro-rated toward meeting full-time experience requirements.

Scopes / Subjects of examination: A test designed to evaluate knowledge, skills and /or abilities in the following areas.
Name and number checking
These questions test for the ability to distinguish between sets of words, letters, and/or numbers that are almost exactly alike. Material is usually presented in two or three columns, and you will have to determine how the entry in the first column compares with the entry in the second column and possibly the third. You will be instructed to mark your answers according to a designated code provided in the directions.
Operations with Letters and Numbers
These questions test for skills and abilities in operations involving alphabetizing, comparing, checking and counting. The questions require you to follow the specific directions given for each question which may involve alphabetizing, comparing, checking and counting given groups of letters and/or numbers.
Customer service
These questions test for knowledge of techniques used to interact with other people, to gather and present information, and to provide assistance, advice and effective customer service in a courteous and professional manner. Questions will cover such topics as understanding and responding to people with diverse needs, perspectives, personalities, and levels of familiarity with agency operations, as well as acting in a way that both serves the public and reflects well on your agency.
Understanding and interpreting written material
These questions test for the ability to understand and interpret written material. You will be presented with brief reading passages and will be asked questions about the passages. You should base your answers to the questions only on what is presented in the passages and not on what you may happen to know about the topic.
NOTICE TO CANDIDATES: It is recommended that candidates use a quiet, hand held, solar or battery powered calculator. Devices with typewriter keyboards, "Spell Checkers", “Personal Digital Assistants", "Address Books", "Language Translators", "Dictionaries", or any similar devices are prohibited. You may not bring books or other reference materials.
