Residence Requirements:

THERE ARE NO RESIDENCY REQUIREMENTS FOR PARTICIPATION IN THIS EXAMINATION. There is one vacancy at the Erie County Medical Center Corporation.

Examples of Duties:

A Nursing Team Leader-Long-Term Care Facility coordinates and performs nursing care on a unit (household) in the Long-Term Care Facility at the Erie County Medical Center Corporation;

Coordinates and supervises nursing services on the household as performed by lower-level nursing staff;

Makes rounds with clinical staff; Assigns staff according to educational preparation and resident acuity;

Monitors the performance of assigned staff for compliance with the resident care plan;

Monitors compliance of personnel with nursing standards, facility policies and procedures, and regulations; develops and provides corrective actions for improving employee clinical performance when necessary;

Coordinates resident plan of care and keeps staff on all shifts informed and involved;

Facilitates team meetings and provides necessary follow-up;

Participates in the performance of orientation and training programs; collaborates with relevant staff for performing such programs;

Monitors and utilizes supplies and equipment in a fiscally responsible manner;

Participates in relevant committees as required; Completes nursing portion of Minimum Data Set (MDS);

Participates in and oversees the participation of lower-level staff in various corporate initiatives and programs such as diversity/inclusion/equity and safety;

Performs tasks normally delegated to lower -level nursing employees, as required.

Qualifications:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  Candidates must meet one of the following requirements on or before December 1, 2021:

A) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing and one (1) year of registered professional nursing experience, of which included six (6) months in a long-term care setting or skilled nursing facility; or:

B) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with an Associate's Degree in Nursing and two (2) years of registered professional nursing experience, of which included six (6) months in a long-term care setting or skilled nursing facility; or:

C) An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B). 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Possession of a license and current registration to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State at the time of appointment;

Possession of Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification at time of appointment and maintenance throughout duration of appointment.

1. Verifiable part-time and/or volunteer experience will be pro-rated toward meeting the experience requirements.

2. Your degree and/or college credit must have been awarded by a regionally accredited college or university or one recognized by the New York State Education Department as following acceptable educational practices. A grade of "D" or better is necessary for a course to be credited as successfully completed. If your degree and/or college credit was awarded by an educational institution outside of the United States and its territories, you must provide independent verification of equivalency. You can write to this Department for a list of acceptable companies providing this service; you must pay the required evaluation fee.

The New York State Department of Civil Service has not prepared a test guide for this examination.

Subjects of Examination:

The only subject of examination will be an evaluation of your training and experience.  You are, therefore, asked to include in your application a summary of all pertinent training and experience in sufficient detail so that your background may be evaluated against the duties of the position.

In your summary of training include all college course work, formal in-service training, and seminars you have attended.  You must specify either the number of credits received or the number of contact hours and dates of attendance.  Also include a copy of your professional license or documentation indicating eligibility for licensure.  Specify the date that your license was first issued.

In your summary of experience, you must specify the dates of your employment, the number of hours worked per week, your title, and the main duties for each.  Be specific; vagueness and ambiguity will NOT be resolved in your favor.  Candidates who submit incomplete applications or documentation may be disqualified.
